Yankee Clipper History

The development started on July 21 1936. It flew for the first time on June 7, 1938. When it entered service it was the largest civil airplane. China clipper was smaller by 15 tons. It was the first plane to use 100-Octane fuel. It maintained the Atlantic crossing by the central route, or via Brazil and West Africa. Many military flights were made in Second World War. Yankee clipper also carried Winston Churchill on his intercontinental journeys, and survived the war to be returned to the United States in 1948.
