Supermarine Spitfire HistoryThe first spitfire flew on the 5th of March, 1936. Large scale contracts were made for the production of this plane in 1937. It had a straight forward design. Had a light alloy monocoque fuselage and a single spar wing with stressed-skin covering and fabric-covered control surfaces. The propeller was also changed in the later versions along with other modifications. It had a fixed tail wheel. Nearly 40 different versions were built including, fighter, fighter/bomber, naval, reconnaissance etc.
