P-51 HistoryIt was designed in 1940. The mustangs entered war in 1041 and were used for photo recon and ground support. In 1942 tests were made with British Rolls-Royce "Merlin" engine making it a highly effective airplane. This newer version p-51B entered war over Europe in 1943. They provide escort to B-17s and B-24s.Providing high-altitude escort to B-17s and B-24s. They were the highest scoring ace in the air and downed nearly 4,950 enemy aircraft. P-51s used in every combat zone. Different versions were made i.e. as an escort fighter, photo recon, ground support and dive bomber.
