HistoryIt flew for the first time on September 7th 1997. The first squadron will be operational by 2004. The F-22 is the next generation air superiority fighter for the Air Force to counter emerging worldwide threats. It has highly maneuverable airframe, advanced integrated avionics, and has supersonic cruise without after burner. It also features stealth element. All weapons are contained in the inside bays of F-22 reducing the drag and enhancing stealth, speed and range. To carry external weapons it has four hard points
