Boeing 717
History
Before the merger of McDonnell Douglas with Boeing, MD-95 program was launched. After the merger it was launched as Boeing 717-200. 717-200 made its maiden flight on September 2 1998. It entered service on September 1 1999 and Air Tran received the first of the jetliners. 717-200 has modernized cockpit and it offered high performance. Extended range was also a notable feature. It is assembled by different air companies namely Alenia producing fuselage, Korean Air producing the nose, AIDC of Taiwan producing the empennage, Shin Maywa of Japan producing the engine pylons and horizontal stabilizers, Israel Aircraft Industries producing the undercarriage and Fischer of Austria producing the interior. Finally 717-200 gets assembled and ready to fly at the Boeing's Long Beach plant.
