B-29 Stratofortress History

Its development started in 1940. It was fitted with better armament, self sealing fuel tanks. Army placed an order of 1,650 plus of these bombers. There were many problems in the development as it was the first huge plane ever built. Boeing had to design its wing on its own. Then problem of crew comfort had to be solved as the plane could fly for 18 hours. Pressurized plane was created for that purpose. Its propellers were huge which also caused trouble on the run way.
